It has been a season of professional milestones and personal shifts in my writing life. From seeing my Highland romance novels hit the shelves of major retailers to navigating the “new normal” at home, there is plenty to catch up on.
Where to Find My Highland Romance Series in Scotland
I am thrilled (thrilled, I tell you) to share that starting 9 April, my Scottish romcoms will be available in physical Waterstones stores across Scotland. You’ll also be able to spot them in Waitrose supermarkets. Perfect for picking up a story alongside your weekly shop… (or when you pop in for one of the many fabulous cheeses that Waitrose stocks).
A Fresh Look from Vinci Books
If you notice the books look a bit different on the shelf, you aren’t mistaken. My publisher, Vinci Books, has recently redesigned the covers. They are now officially “very pretty,” and the back-cover descriptions have been polished to be far more compelling. While I can’t take credit for the new aesthetic, I’m delighted that these stories finally have the “wardrobe” they deserve.

From Wattpad to Micro-Dramas: My Vampire Novel
In a surprising turn for my vampire fiction, the story was recently selected for a Wattpad “Books of the Month” promotion. Remarkably, this one-off payment has earned more than the book’s total previous sales and page reads combined—a testament to the unpredictable nature of the publishing world.
Even more exciting is the prospect of a micro-drama adaptation.
- What is a micro-drama, I hear you ask… These are ultra-short, high-intensity scripted series (usually 60–90 seconds per episode) designed for mobile platforms. It’s a fast-paced way to experience a story, and I’m looking forward to seeing my characters in this new format.
Coming Soon: Highland Proposal (Mhari and Lachlan’s Story)
I have finally finished the rewrite of Highland Proposal. This latest instalment follows Mhari and Lachlan, and after a lot of hard work behind the scenes, the manuscript is finally where it needs to be. My goal is to have this in readers’ hands by Summer 2026.
A Farewell to William
On a sadder note, I have to share that we said goodbye to our beloved cat, William, at the end of February.

Earlier this year, William was diagnosed with a pancreatic tumour. Because treatment would have been incredibly invasive, expensive, and stressful for him, we chose to prioritise his comfort. Having him put to sleep was a heartbreaking decision, but the kindest one we could make.
Our surviving cat is currently adjusting to life as an “only child”. In the lead-up to William’s passing, we were constantly topping up the food plates to help him stay nourished and she clearly thought she’d won the feline lottery. Now that it’s easier to monitor the kitchen, she has found herself on a strict, enforced diet—much to her disappointment.

Emma Baird is an award-winning writer, specialising in romcoms and fiction that focuses on relationships, and a type 1 diabetic. She is also the co-author of The Diabetes Diet, co-written with a doctor. Most importantly, she is the guardian of one very spoiled cat…

Congrats on the wide distribution of your books. You are starting to make it big!
Thank you! Here’s hoping!
You’ve certainly had a tough time lately. You did the right thing by your cat. Well done on the book breakthrough. It will lead to even better things ahead.
Thank you.
So amazing about your Highland books. So well deserved!
Sorry to hear about lovely William and hope your other cat is ok. xx
Thank you. My two cats tolerated each other, so the other one is now enjoying being the sole focus of our attention…
I once had two cats like that. Tibbs got a new lease of life once Harvey passed. Funny creatures. X
